These engagements transcend mere scope-of-work management. They evidence a diversity of specialized skills that transformed project ambiguity into manageable, deployed solutions.
Presented a reporting and analytics strawman to an IT team for what was a critical deficiency of the MANMAN/OpenVMS ERP. The challenge: maintain OLTP integrity while satisfying the vast requirements of reporting and analytics from ERP data.
The solution — subsequently coined "An Effective Surround Strategy" — provided a proprietary framework that accommodated multiple organizations (tenants) and bolt-on integration of Windows-based desktop tools. More than 150 databases have been "surrounded" at client sites across Europe, North America, Mexico, and Asia.
A key innovation was the framework infrastructure that permits broad integration across unlimited ERP platforms including SAP. This expertise enabled clients to scale and extend the MANMAN/OpenVMS ERP through proprietary integration interfaces — extending the end-life of the ERP by 20 years.
A simple client need: "Provide the ability to execute transactions from .NET applications to an OpenVMS ERP." The solution extended the surround strategy to provide not only advanced analytics and reporting, but also real-time transaction capability from OpenVMS delivered as a dynamic ETL service.
After a technology review and functional proof-of-concept, the proprietary TelEnvy framework was built to support dynamic XML-based transaction units enabling n-sided conversations from desktop applications to OpenVMS and back. The framework implements TCP, native socket, and third-party Telnet components with extensive callback functionality.
The client required a middleware service within six months to create a real-time bridge between an OpenVMS ERP and Amazon AWS/EC2 web service. There was no specification, documentation, scope of work, or technology review.
The project scope evolved from a fixed middleware interface to a full framework supporting any provider/consumer service on both sides. The transaction engine provided data cleansing and transformation between interfaces in real-time, with support for SOAP, REST, EDIFACT, FTP, SFTP, and flat file transports using XML and JSON data envelopes.
The framework was evaluated to extend real-time AWS/EC2 integration to the client's offshore IBM AS/400 systems and ERPs executing in Central America.
A global semiconductor manufacturer's factory automation landscape required observability coverage for legacy OpenVMS systems — 16+ systems across Korea, Japan, Singapore, North America, Mexico, and Canada. No native Dynatrace agent exists for OpenVMS.
Authored a custom integration that auto-generates JSON metric payloads from OpenVMS T4 performance profiles, delivering 600+ metrics per system to Dynatrace SaaS. The integration was subsequently highlighted at Dynatrace Perform 2022 in Las Vegas.
